Janice Lee Kirstein went to the University of Texas at Austin to study Electrical Engineering on a full academic scholarship. Meanwhile, she also loved piano so 
much that she studied music and piano throughout college. During her last year at UT, she began teaching piano and has been teaching ever since. Janice earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1987, moved to San Diego, and began working at Hughes Aircraft Corporation where she met her husband Bob. They’ve been married since 1990. She was teaching over 20 students a week when she left Hughes after 7 years to have her daughter Jacquelyn, born in 1994. At her busiest, she taught about 40 students a week in addition to volunteering to accompany the school choir every week at Dingeman Elementary School and playing the synthesizer for the school’s annual musical production. She has since given birth to another girl Brooke in 2003.
